Prerequisite
Before starting the setup, make sure the following prerequisites are fulfilled.
Axis Cameras and BodyWorn Manager
Before starting this guide, make sure that the Axis Body Worn cameras and the Body Worn Manager are fully set up and functional. If this has not yet been done, follow this guide before proceeding further. The cameras should be equipped with SIM cards. Having extra Wi-Fi extenders that can be placed in areas with weak signals is important.
Setting Up a Traxmate Account
To make use of the device tracking, a Traxmate account must be set up. Proceed by requesting an account at Traxmate. Traxmate is divided into two platforms: a site manager (blue/white) and a device manager (black/white). Throughout this guide, it will be made clear which one should be used.
Floor Plans
To be able to make use of the Traxmate indoor tracking sufficiently, a floor plan of the Axis Experience Center is required. The following file formats are supported: PNG, JPEG and SVG.
Android Phone
To be able to conduct the survey explained below, an Android phone is needed. Here are the minimum required Android models and the recommended ones in parentheses.
- Google Pixel 7a (Pixel 9a)
- Samsung Galaxy S21 (Galaxy S23)
- Galaxy Z Fold 6 (Fold 7)
Step 1: Retrieving your Service Token
To be able to make use of the indoor positioning, you need your account-specific service token. The service token can be found under the “Integrations tab” on Traxmate V3 (device manager). A more detailed guide can be found here.
Step 2: Enable Traxmate in the Body Worn Manager
- Go to your Axis Body Worn Manager page and open the Developer Tools by pressing F12 or right-click and “Inspect”

- Choose the “Application” top tab menu and press local storage
- Press your server address and add a new key called “indoorPositioning” with the value “true”

- Now you should be able to see the ”Indoor Positioning with Traxmate” option under Camera Profiles. If it’s greyed out, make sure you have set up a “Wireless connection”.

- Find the “Add-on services” on the left side of your screen and go to “Indoor positioning”. Enter the service token that you have received for Traxmate.

Step 3: Setting up your Building
To be able to track the devices optimally, Traxmate needs information about the building in which you will use your devices. To set up your building, follow this guide.
Step 4: Conducting a Survey
Lastly, Traxmate needs information about the radio environment in the building. Where access points are placed and how strong the signals are. This is easily done by conducting a survey, as explained here.
If you are not able to conduct a survey, the access points can be placed manually, as explained here.
Step 5: Testing the Tracking
- Log in to your Traxmate account at online.v3.traxmate.io. Make sure the devices appear in the device list and on the map.
- Pick up one of the Body Worn Cameras and make sure it is turned on.
- Note the last four letters of the Hardware ID or its name to easily find it in the dashboard later.
- Walk to a corner of the room and stand there for 20 seconds; repeat the process with every corner of the room.
Evaluate the track that Traxmate has created by clicking the Track menu item. It can be found by either clicking the context menu (three dots) in the device list or by clicking the device on the map. Follow this guide for a more detailed explanation.
